What is the D&D 5e spell list?

The 5th edition Systems Reference Document includes 319 spells licensed under the Open Game Licence. This tool shows the full text of every one, searchable and filterable by school, level, and class. No account, no paywall.

How do spell schools work in D&D?

Every spell belongs to one of eight schools: Abjuration (protection and warding), Conjuration (summoning and teleportation), Divination (information and foresight), Enchantment (mind and emotion), Evocation (energy and force), Illusion (deception and senses), Necromancy (life, death, and undeath), and Transmutation (physical change). Wizards who specialize in a school gain extra benefits when casting spells from it.

What is a ritual spell?

A ritual spell can be cast without spending a spell slot if the caster has the ritual casting feature and has the spell prepared or in their spellbook. The ritual takes 10 minutes longer than the normal casting time. Ritual spells are marked in this tool.

FAQ

The SRD includes 319 spells under the Open Game Licence. This tool shows all of them, but note that some spells from published supplements are not in the SRD and won't appear here.

Yes. Use the search box and type a class name (e.g. "Wizard", "Cleric") to filter spells available to that class.

Concentration spells require you to maintain focus to sustain the effect. You can only concentrate on one spell at a time, and taking damage can break concentration. These are marked with a Concentration tag on each card.

Ritual spells can be cast without expending a spell slot by adding 10 minutes to the casting time. Only classes with the Ritual Casting feature (or the Ritual Caster feat) can use this option.

All spells here are from the 5e Systems Reference Document, published by Wizards of the Coast under the Open Game Licence. They are freely available for personal use and compatible third-party products.
