TL;DR: As of October 2026, the five map creators most DMs end up comparing are Czepeku (painted maps, many variations, $1-$20 per pack), Tom Cartos (weekly multi-level sets, $5-$100 a month), Forgotten Adventures (tokens and assets, $3-$10 per release), 2-Minute Tabletop (hand-drawn, $1-$10 per map) and Baileywiki (Foundry scenes, $3-$20 a month). All of them are good at what they do. A one-time bundle is the better buy when you want coverage at the lowest cost per map and no monthly fee.

Search for “best battlemap Patreon” and you get the same handful of names in every thread. That is because they are genuinely good. The question is not which one is good, it is which one fits how you run games, and whether a subscription fits you at all.

This is a named roundup. If you want the cost-model argument on its own, subscription against one-time purchase, that is covered in battlemap subscriptions vs one-time bundles. Here we compare the creators themselves.

All prices below are in US dollars, taken from each creator’s Patreon or website as of October 2026. Patreon pages change often, so check the live tier before you pledge.

Czepeku

Czepeku is the name most people mean when they say “map Patreon”. With around 115,000 members on Patreon as of October 2026, it is the largest in this group.

Pricing is per map pack. The tiers are $1, $5, $10 and $20, and Czepeku says there are always four or five releases a month. Each pack averages about ten maps, and sometimes far more. According to Czepeku, $1 gets the base map in day and night, $5 adds every variation, and $10 adds animated maps and Foundry VTT modules. Their own blog puts the $5 tier at about $25 a month at normal release volume, and the $10 tier at about $50.

There is also a separate website subscription, listed at around $15 a month for Essential and $25 for Premium on a single fantasy plan. The website library is described as 18,000 maps and scenes, and Premium adds animated night maps.

Where it is strongest: variations. A single scene comes in multiple states, such as day and night, flooded or burning. That is very hard to replicate from a general library, and it is what makes Czepeku feel cinematic at the table.

Tom Cartos

Tom Cartos specialises in map sets that cover several levels or areas of one place, such as a building, a dungeon or a stretch of wilderness. New sets go up weekly. The Patreon has around 38,000 members as of October 2026.

Tiers are monthly: $5, $12, $18, $50 and $100, with a 20% saving for annual payment. The top two tiers are aimed at creators and personal feedback rather than at a typical DM. Free low-resolution versions are posted weekly, and the maps reach the Roll20 marketplace as one-off purchases eight to ten weeks after their Patreon release.

Tom Cartos also publishes Foundry modules. The Into the Wilds module, for example, lists 230 individual maps and 980 placeable assets.

Where it is strongest: connected locations. If your session moves from a tavern’s cellar to its upper floor to the alley out back, a multi-level set keeps everything in one consistent style.

Forgotten Adventures

Forgotten Adventures is a slightly different proposition. It is best known for tokens, tilesets and mapmaking assets, used in Foundry VTT, Roll20 and Dungeondraft, rather than purely for finished maps. Finished battlemaps run through a separate FA Battlemaps Patreon.

Pricing is per creation, at $3, $5 or $10, with a $3 monthly minimum and a maximum monthly pledge you set yourself. Forgotten Adventures says its usual schedule is three to six releases a month.

The detail that sets it apart: the original colour versions of all its assets and tokens are free for personal use. Its free Tokens Library and Core Mapmaking Pack are a strong starting point before you spend anything.

Where it is strongest: building your own maps. If you use Dungeondraft or another map-making tool, few asset libraries are as consistent or as generous.

2-Minute Tabletop

2-Minute Tabletop is everything hand-drawn, made by a small team of human artists. That gives it a distinct, illustrated look that suits a lot of tables.

Patreon pricing is per hand-drawn map: $1, $2, $5 or $10. The Patreon has around 18,000 members as of October 2026. Outside Patreon, the site sells an Everything Pack covering 421 map and asset packs, and its token collections total roughly 7,000 tokens. A free welcome pack includes city, forest and dungeon maps, 71 textures and assets, and 50 tokens.

Where it is strongest: value per map at the low tiers, and a cohesive hand-drawn style across maps and tokens.

Baileywiki

Baileywiki is built for Foundry VTT. The tiers are monthly: $3 for channel support, $8 for the Foundry Basic track, $14 for Foundry Advanced and $20 for everything. Basic covers modular 2D maps and assets with thousands of tiles and prefabs. Advanced adds 3D assets. Its software tools are a separate subscription on its own website.

Where it is strongest: ready-built Foundry scenes. If you run Foundry and want to drop a ready-made scene into a session, this is the most Foundry-native option here.

Which Patreon for which DM

  • You want the most cinematic maps and use variants: Czepeku at $5 or $10.
  • You run dungeon crawls or urban adventures with lots of interiors: Tom Cartos.
  • You make your own maps, or need a deep token library: Forgotten Adventures, starting with the free packs.
  • You like hand-drawn art and want to keep costs down: 2-Minute Tabletop at the low tiers.
  • You live in Foundry VTT: Baileywiki, or the Foundry modules from Czepeku and Tom Cartos.

If you are still choosing a platform, the best VTT for D&D in 2026 and Roll20 vs Foundry for battlemaps cover how each creator’s files behave once imported.

Where a one-time bundle wins

Being honest about what we sell: a MakeMythic bundle is not a Czepeku substitute. You do not get a curated stream of new art, matched variations of every scene, animated versions or a Foundry module for each release.

What you get is breadth and a full stop on cost.

Cost per map. A bundle of 150,000+ maps costs less than half of one month at Czepeku’s $5 tier by its own estimate. Even if you only ever use a tiny fraction of it, the cost per map you actually use is far lower.

Coverage. Patreon releases follow the creator’s schedule. When your party heads somewhere you did not prep, a broad library is more likely to have something close already on your drive.

No renewal. One payment, files you keep offline, nothing to cancel when the campaign ends.

The sensible pattern for many DMs is both. Buy broad coverage once, then subscribe to one of the creators above for a month or two around the campaign arc where visual quality matters most, and cancel afterwards. Download everything while you are subscribed.

Getting any of these maps onto the table

Whichever source you pick, the work of running the map is the same. If you play in person on a screen, the free tabletop display tool shows a map on a TV with the grid aligned, and the fog of war tool handles reveals. For maps that arrive without a grid, the grid overlay adds one at the right scale.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best battlemap Patreon?
There is no single best one; it depends on what you run. Czepeku is the strongest pick for painted maps with many variations and animation, Tom Cartos for multi-level building and dungeon sets, Forgotten Adventures for tokens and mapmaking assets, 2-Minute Tabletop for hand-drawn maps at low per-map prices, and Baileywiki for Foundry VTT users who want ready-built scenes.
How much does Czepeku cost on Patreon?
As of October 2026, Czepeku's Patreon charges per map pack, with tiers at $1, $5, $10 and $20. Czepeku releases four or five packs a month, and its own blog estimates the $5 tier at about $25 a month and the $10 tier at about $50. Its website subscriptions are separate, at around $15 a month for Essential and $25 for Premium on a single fantasy plan.
Czepeku vs Forgotten Adventures: which should I choose?
They do different jobs. Czepeku sells finished, painted battlemaps with many variations of each scene. Forgotten Adventures is best known for tokens and mapmaking assets you build your own maps with, and it releases the original colour versions of its assets and tokens free for personal use. Choose Czepeku for ready-to-run maps and Forgotten Adventures for building your own.
What does per creation pricing mean on Patreon?
You are charged each time the creator publishes a qualifying release rather than a flat monthly fee. Czepeku, Forgotten Adventures and 2-Minute Tabletop all price this way. Patreon lets you set a maximum monthly pledge, so a busy release month cannot exceed the cap you choose.
Are battlemap Patreons worth it?
They are worth it if you play weekly, use new maps most sessions and care about polished, consistent art. They are poor value if you play monthly or only need occasional coverage, because the cost runs every month whether or not you use the new releases.
Is a one-time battlemap bundle a good alternative to a Patreon?
For breadth and cost per map, yes. A large one-time bundle costs less than a single month of most premium tiers and has no renewal. What it does not give you is a curated stream of new art, animated versions or Foundry modules built around each release.
